MY JOURNEY:WILLIS RABURU.
By Lilian Kangani.

A picture  from one of the past events.

The ever humorous Citizen TV's Willis Raburu ,is one of the most celebrated  journalists in Kenya.

The multitalented media personality didn't have an easy way into the industry as many people may think. You've probably  seen him on your screens a couple of times weekly.Curious to know about how he rose to fame and success? How he did it?What Inspired him?Well you are in the right place,I'm here to quench your thirst.

Here's a quick glimpse of Willis Raburu's journey to success.Raburu studied at Agakhan primary school,Kisumu before joining Chemelil mixed academy highschool.Later he joined Moi University to pursue bachelor's  Degree of Information Science in Media.

A large number of media students will agree with me that there's a norm that media career especially journalism  doesn't have market  out there and so most parents often want their children to venture into other fields .This wasn't any different with Willis Raburu'.

"My dad originally wanted me to study IT.I dint have any interest in the field since I wanted to be in Media all through. So when I enrolled for higher education,I lied to him I was studying IT for over three and a half years."The news anchor revealed in an interview with Citizen.

He joined media as an intern in k24 while in 3rd year at Moi University. He confesses that while working in the newsroom covering stories that couldn't go without his voice overs. He would later be told  by his boss then, that his voice  was unsuitable  to go on air.But he never gave up ,He says ,he did it every time and again  until he received appreciation from his boss calling him a News anchor.

When he finished his internship,he went back to school and volunteered at the University's  radio station which many students looked down upon.He sharpened his skills  and improved his voice.

The reknown journalist believes that to go where nobody has gone ,you need to do what nobody else has done.In citizen, interns were not allowed  to voice for their stories , however he did  his first voice over  to camera within the second week as an intern.

He attributes his success to his former  boss Faridah Karoney, the editorial director. She taught  him that success ain't an event ,it's a way of life .People should not know him because he works  for citizen but because of the way  he uses the platform given to him .He says his work should speak for him

Willis Raburu started off with (Truth metre)then he later became a news anchor. He currently hosts citizen TV's entertainment  show 10 over 10 not to mention that he also has a show at hot 96 radio station.

He has won several awards  on feature stories in the recent past like "The Deadly waters,Road accidents and a story from Rwanda ,A journey of resilience."

It is with no reasonable doubt that he is a legend by making.I hope you've been inspired by Willis Raburu's story.

Let's meet on another story ..and let's be inspired.

AMINA ABDI THE GO GETTER.

It is an undeniable fact that Amina Abdi Rabar is the one media personality who has kept up to her game. When asked randomly who Amina Abdi Rabar is,one would say that she is a Tv presenter, others radio presenter, not leaving out being a singer.
If asked I would say she is a superwoman.Let me take you through  her development careerwise.
Homeboyz opened a radio school and Amina joined.Homeboyz had pledged to give a chance to the top student  of working at Homeboyz radio. And Amina being intelligent managed to be the first.
This is where Amina Abdi Rabar kicked off her journey.
Amina Abdi rabar later joined Magic East and made her way through to K24 and now works at capital Fm and graces the Trend show at NTV.Good progress right?
Amina Abdi Rabar said that when she first joined NTV,THE TREND ....many people had second doubts about her because they thought she wont  be able to match up to Larry Madowo's  level. But to their surprise she proved them wrong.
Since then she has had gigs in Ebru Tv and Coke studio just to mention but a few.Her admirable commitment and hardwork that has seen her through all of the years has left everyone amazed at her ability to multitask all of the jobs and uncountable gigs she's had.
I will be doing injustice to her if I fail to mention the awards that she has won over the  few years she has been on the spotlight. She has won the Soma awards  2018 and she also featured among the young  100 achievers.
On a certain interview ,she said that she is always inspired by people with magnetic energy. She also added that ,if you have a dream, dont wait for someone to help you achieve it.You should start by working on it personally.
Most if not all of the media personalities have not had an easy way into the industry but they never gave up.Hope you have learnt something from Amina Abdi's story, you develop one step at a time.

RIOTS HIT UON OVER MURDER OF A STUDENT LEADER.

A portion of UON students  have protested following  the killing of one of their own, blocking the state house road.Investigations have shown that    the late Mr Samuel Ragira  popularly known as OCS Ragira  was against grabbing of club 36,a market owned by students and business people around there.
For the  benefit of those who might not be well conversant with club 36 ,its a set of structures that act as eateries  in the prime serenities of UON.Most portions are owned by students.

The late OCS Ragira is said to be one of the owners of the envied structures. It is said that OCS Ragira was protesting against grabbing of club 36,and this might have been the reason he was killed.
Here is what he wrote on social media  few hours before he was killed.
"Now they want to grab klabu 36,goons armed with pangas and pistols. It cannot happen#zagazaga."
"We will stop at nothing until the students own club 36 as 95 percent of them do their shopping there."says the UON Student leader known as  Mr Antony Manyara.

He protested that the club 36 must be under the management of students. He said that the Mungiki were demanding 10,000shillings from every trader or else they would take over the market.
The public have  taken their disapointments out on social media on#RIPOCSRagira.
Police are digging into the matter.

THE FALL AND RISE OF JIMMI GATHU.

Most if not all of the people   identify with Jimmi  Gathu as "Achana na mpango wa kando guy"an advert he managed to be in,that was aired several years ago.He used to be  one of the prominent Radio  presenter at Nation FM when it was on its peak.He was a fixture in the media industry for several decades.
He is known for his  constant  innovation and self improvement .One day, when he was at the top of his career  the Nation Fm shut down and Jimmi Gathu was left parking,a move that really affected him, since he had worked all his life and this was definitely a tough moment for him.But one thing that really kept him going was his family especially his wife.He said this at a certain interview."It was a tough moment for me.If it were not for my wife Cathy,Im really not sure I would have made it.At some point, I was ready to take any job  for whatever salary  but she said,'You know what, don't worry I will handle it.'Even when it was tough for her,she was there .He also added that, that was when he started his communications  company.
Jimmy Gathu never gave up on his career, however long it took,he just held on.

After a long break from the spotlight,he is now back at our living rooms gracing  one of the new KTN  Reality TV Show, known as (Ms President). He is currently moving from one county to another doing backstories for the contestants  of the show whereby he will be  hosting the show.

Turning 50 next year, here are some of the things he has learnt ,career wise,he has learnt that you should read about the industry you are in .Spend time with people  who have the ability to  challenge you and  drive you to be better.
He also added that in life...his philosophy  is to be  and do the best  he can be.To make a positive  impact  even on one person's  life.
